Development of an own Tomorrowland bin; the first bin in the world specifically designed for festivals; the FlowerBin®. The eye-catching bin is part of the beautiful festival decoration. When (packaging) materials are more attractive, we appreciate the product more. This should lead to less of a throw-away mindset and convert into a recycling mentality.
The bin invites to sort several types of waste in a fun way, which makes it logistically smoother to recycle all that is collected.
With the support of an innovation subsidy by MIP, LoveTomorrow created the FlowerBin® (in partnership with OVAM, the City of Antwerp, Total Waste Systems & Fosfor). Learnings lead to the creation of a new generation of bins: Lovebin & Calyx (now part of The Recycle Club) – they are easy for visitors to use and for crew to handle and store.
Reduced the quantities of trash thrown on the ground with a third. Progress: In 2019 80% correctly sorted waste, compared to 30% in 2013.
Cleanliness: the amount of litter that the Calyx bin prevents, is almost enough to fill the entire Freedom stage.
We are keen to make this know-how available to local governments in order to help villages and cities change people’s perception on waste. By dealing with the public space differently, we make sorting easy, attractive and rewarding. We continue to push the boundaries on how to improve the collection of materials in the future.
